Women Celebrating Women

Next Women Celebrating Women Event:

March 16, 2016

Location: C. Charles Jackson Center at Gustavus Adolphus College.

In the United States, Women’s History Month is celebrated in March. Each year, the National Women’s History Project selects a theme to recognize and celebrate the diverse and historic accomplishments of women by providing information and educational materials and programs.

Locally, we celebrate with an event called Women Celebrating Women, which celebrates the accomplishments of women of all ages and walks of life from our area. Our goal is to write women into the history of St. Peter. We attempt to provide a lovely dinner, displays related to the theme of the year, a short program and conclude the evening by honoring a person who has made notable contributions to the community of St. Peter.

Women Celebrating Women is in its 13th year and has honored many women in the community for their leadership and contributions to society — locally, statewide and in some cases nationally. We have also posthumously honored such notable women from St. Peter’s history such as Lillien Cox Gault Wolfe, Jan Moline and Josie Powell Stone. Each of these women is a part of the history of what makes St. Peter such a successful community. Their contributions serve as an inspiration to young women and a challenge to all of us.
