Women Celebrating Women

Next Women Celebrating Women Event:

March 16, 2016

Location: C. Charles Jackson Center at Gustavus Adolphus College.

In the United States, Women’s History Month is celebrated in March. Each year, the National Women’s History Project selects a theme to recognize and celebrate the diverse and historic accomplishments of women by providing information and educational materials and programs.

Locally, we celebrate with an event called Women Celebrating Women, which celebrates the accomplishments of women of all ages and walks of life from our area. Our goal is to write women into the history of St. Peter. We attempt to provide a lovely dinner, displays related to the theme of the year, a short program and conclude the evening by honoring a person who has made notable contributions to the community of St. Peter.

Women Celebrating Women is in its 13th year and has honored many women in the community for their leadership and contributions to society — locally, statewide and in some cases nationally. We have also posthumously honored such notable women from St. Peter’s history such as Lillien Cox Gault Wolfe, Jan Moline and Josie Powell Stone. Each of these women is a part of the history of what makes St. Peter such a successful community. Their contributions serve as an inspiration to young women and a challenge to all of us.

History

Saint Peter Area Women Celebrating Women has given an annual award that celebrates and recognizes area women who have achieved notable distinction in their field of interest or profession and who have proven to be a leader and an inspiration to women.

Mission
As a celebration of all women’s accomplishments, we commend our own area women making a positive difference. A local woman will be honored annually for her outstanding service, professional accomplishments, and leadership.
General Information
In 2005, a group of women gathered to discuss a desire to recognize area women for their local contributions.

Within that year, this same group of women founded Saint Peter Area Women Celebrating Women. A celebration of women's accomplishments within and including Saint Peter and it's surrounding community was born.

Each year a theme is preselected for the banquet, reflecting one of the many assets women bring to our community. A female guest speaker is also invited, speaking about women and their roles in community.

Through a nomination process, local community members submit a nomination application for a woman they feel is be-fitting of such recognition.

The anticipation builds, prior to each banquet, as no information or names are shared with the public about or during the submission process. The selection committee reviews all award applications, and a recipient is announced, at the annual WCW Banquet.
